Kuantan is served by the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport and you can get here through domestic airline services provided by Malaysia Airlines, the national air carrier that comes here from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Air Asia that flies here from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal, both located in Sepang respectively. There are also daily flights on the FireFly coming in from Penang.
Otherwise you can also drive here from Kuala Lumpur which takes around 3-4 hours through the Karak and East Coast Expressway. On road, you can also take the bus from all major towns in around Malaysia. The main bus terminal here is the Terminal Makmur located around the main city stadium.
In Kuantan, it is best that you take taxies to help you get around as the public buses here can be sometimes very confusing. Unless you are the adventurous type and do not mind getting lost to go to your destination, you should not take buses. Otherwise, you could rent a car to get around Kuantan city which is easier. There might traffic jams in around the busy spots of Kuantan but once you get the hang of it, it will be a breeze.
